My Poor Sweet Dog!

The back-door neighbor's "tripod" dog broke through the fence in to our yard. When I let Sparky out yesterday morning she attacked him. He came in and went straight to his kennel dejected. I looked in the kennel and he appeared alright and wasn't whining so I let him be. When Rich got home I told him what happened and he noticed blood on Sparky's side. upon further inspection we found a huge gash where she bit him! Rich went over and spoke with the neighbors and they were very nice. They said it's not even their dog, a friend left it there when he moved out. They will get rid of the mean dog, fix the fence and pay the vet bill.

Rich found an after hours clinic and got him in for stitches. It took a couple hours because he couldn't bring him home until he woke up from the anesthesia. When they got home Sparky wanted to sit in his kennel, but he couldn't fit with the cone on his head! It's his comfort spot so Rich just took off the lid and problem solved!

We've had Sparky since he was 6 weeks old and now at 10 years old this is his first visit to the vet for something other than routine shots. He'll have to wear the cone for about 2 weeks until the stitches come out (so he doesn't lick them). We also have to give him amoxicillin twice a day.
I am so squeamish and have a really hard time looking at his staples, so if you're like me avoid the picture below (it's not even a close-up, I really am that wimpy).

It's really hard not to laugh at him as he walks in to walls and tries to scratch his head or fit in to small spaces with the cone on his head!

P.S. Rich has posted on this in much more detail.

Poor Sparky! I'm glad your neighbors were nice and are paying for things. I hope he recovers quickly.

poor puppy.

Although, the whole ordeal just reinforces my "no pets" rule. I've got enough other things to worry about.

Hope sparky heals quickly.

Gonna have to get him some karate lessons, for next time... Reminds me of my appendectomy. I had 12 staples in my side. Nothing beats feeling like piece of paper. It kinda tickled a bit when they took the staples out, in the doctors office.

That first picture almost makes it look like he is embarrassed. Poor guy. Hope it heals quickly and the neighbors keep the dog away so the kids and dog will be safe.
