Enna Has Arrived!

Enna
Born 10/12/10
3:16pm
8lbs 1 oz
20 inches

Right after she was born

One Day Old

Tuesday morning 10/12 I woke up about 4:30am to use the restroom. There was such a gush I thought, "Surely my water just broke." I laid back down in bed and felt contractions every 3-5 minutes so I woke Richard up to decide what we should do. We didn't have a plan as to what to do with Moira and Kella and I didn't want to wake them up. I had the inspiration to call our friend Ashley as she didn't have to go to work that day. She was so sweet and wonderful to come to our house at 5:00 in the morning with no prior warning and watch the kids for half a day (thank you)!

We went to the hospital and checked in about 5:45am. They checked me and said I was dilated to a 3 and 80% effaced, but my water had not broken. At 7:00am they said they would check me again in an hour and if I hadn't progressed I'd be sent home. Richard and I walked the small circuit of labor and delivery for an hour and I was still feeling contractions every 3-5 minutes. At 8:30am they checked and I was dilated to a 4 and 90% effaced so they let me stay. I was so happy I didn't have to go home plus then they gave me the epidural. After that kicked in I took it easy, had a nap, read my book and chatted with Richard.

The Nurse Midwife broke my water at 2:30pm and I could tell the contractions got stronger after that. They came and got everything ready for me to start pushing. I started pushing at 3:15pm and after 1 solid push and some little pushes she was born at 3:16pm. Following Enna was a gush of "water" that completely surprised the Midwife, even though we had warned her that Moira basically surfed out and Kella had plenty of water as well. Her pants and shoes were sopping and they had to mop the floor.

Enna was beautiful from the start (she wasn't in the birth canal long, so she wasn't squished up or anything). She has a cute little head of dark hair with a baby mullet in back. She is a good sleeper, but also very good to wake up and eat (usually every 3 hours during the day). Over the past 2 weeks we have been lucky to usually get at least one 6 hour stretch of sleep each night, sometimes more.

Moira and Kella love their new sister and smother her with hugs and kisses. Moira likes to tell her stories and sing her songs. Kella will ask me, "Enna play a minute?" when she's done nursing. They get so excited every time she opens her eyes. It's so fun to have three girls!

So sweet! I wish tif would sleep 6 hours, she is 4 months and only does that once in a while.

And they didn't break your water till 2:30? Why'd they wait so long? crazy. Well, I guess they just had to "let things progress". Congrats though. I'm glad you shared the labor story too, I was just wondering the other day how it all came about and was going to email you. But now I know. =)

Yes thank you for sharing. I always find it interesting the different stories that you get to tell with each child. Enna is a cutie, so glad that the girls love her. Congrats!
