Our New "Wheat Grinder"

With our Economic Stimulus money we decided to beef up our food storage. We've never purchased wheat because we had no way to grind it. So our first step was finding a wheat grinder. As I researched them I was surprised at how expensive they are! In my quest for alternatives I came across something that only cost a little more and would perform many other useful functions as well as grinding wheat in to flour.

So we purchased a beautiful new Vita-Mix at Costco!
We wanted black, so we waited not-so-patiently for it to come in the mail and it arrived last week!

We have used it almost every day and usually multiple times.

The first day (Wednesday) Rich made Fruit Smoothie and Strawberry Ice Cream.

Thursday I made Strawberry Ice Cream (for my cooking club).

Friday I made the Mixed Fruit Smoothie.

Saturday Rich mixed up Pancakes and Raspberry Syrup and we had a delicious breakfast!

Sunday I made a Watermelon Smoothie.

Tuesday I used it for 3 of my "Cafe Rio" recipes (in the blog below) and for Guacamole. Then Rich made us an Orange Banana Coconut Smoothie for dessert.

Wednesday Rich mixed up Ranch dressing (it was so smooth and creamy, yum).

Today Rich mixed the eggs for breakfast (he added a chunk of onion) and made Orange Julius.

Most of the recipes we've done have been from the Vita-Mix cookbook and they are great!

So far I'm really enjoying this new blender! It sure beats my old one, even though I can't bring myself to get rid of it because it is beautiful and orange (it will go in storage until I can find a use for it).

Now we just need to buy some wheat so we can try out our original intended purpose!
Happy Pioneer Day!

I think Costco sells the wheat your looking for. Sounds like you are having fun with your new toy!!

A couple of weeks ago my mom and I were at Costco when they were having a vita-mix demonstration and we tried, I think, about 4 different samples. It's a very cool blender!

Someday I'll get me a cool blender like this too...when I have a kitchen that is larger than a matchbox.

I was a little surprised you held off for black and didn't try to find an orange one.
