What's On My Nightstand?

I looked over the other night as I was getting in to bed and realized my pile of half read books was pretty high! My 2nd cousin (or maybe 1st cousin once removed, it's my mom's cousin I don't know the proper terms) used to send an e-mail update and at the end she always had a segment called, "What's on my nightstand." So that inspired me to take this picture and let you all know what I'm reading.

Don't Shoot The Dog! by Karen Pryor - I borrowed this from Josh Black when Moira was just a few months old. It's a wonderful book about training people (or animals) through positive reinforcement. I got about half way through and then got distracted by another book and forgot to finish it, I need to do that!

Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance: An Inquiry into Values by Robert M. Pirsig - Rich borrowed this book from Justin Cutler who had borrowed it from Josh Black like clear back in high school or something (I asked Josh if he wanted it back and he had already purchased another copy). Anyway I had never read it and Rich highly recommends it so I submitted it for my Book Club to read and it was put on the list. I never finished it in time for the discussion and kept on reading it while I was nursing Moira, but then when she stopped nursing I put it down and haven't finished it since. I'd probably have to start over on this one although I do want to finish it. It's an interesting mix of philosophy with examples including motorcycle maintenance as he goes on a cross country motorcycle journey with his son and some friends.

What to Expect When You're Expecting by Arlene Eisenberg and Heidi Murkoff - This book was in the box with my maternity clothes so I have been thumbing through it as a reminder to all the fun things happening to my body right now!

Pottywise by Garry Ezzo and Robert Bucknam - I've been reading this since Moira turned 2 hoping to be ready when she was for the whole potty training fun. It's finally coming in handy and hopefully soon this book will go back on the shelf!

On Becoming Toddlerwise: From First Steps to Potty Training by Garry Ezzo and Robert Bucknam - I started this book when Moira started walking (only about a year ago). I finished it all the way to the Q&A in the back which I'm still browsing. It has really helped me understand little toddler brains and finding some ways to train them. This will probably go back on the shelf before Kella is born.

On Becoming Babywise by Garry Ezzo and Robert Bucknam - I plucked this off the bookshelf to read again in preparation for the new baby but haven't started it yet. It really saved my sanity when Moira was a baby and hopefully I will be sane sooner this 2nd time around!

Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince by J.K. Rowling - I was waiting not so patiently for Breaking Dawn to come out and itching to read something so I chose Harry Potter 6 in preparation for the movie coming out. Then I can re-read 7 when I'm done with 6 because honestly I can't remember what all happens!

Breaking Dawn by Stephanie Meyers - I finally got to borrow this from Moira's babysitter across the street! I have finished it since taking this picture and must say I loved it! I really like how things worked out and enjoyed having such a happy warm feeling at the end of the book.

So Breaking Dawn is no longer on my nightstand but has been replaced by The Teachings of Joseph Smith because I have to prepare my Relief Society lesson for Sunday.

Also next to the books are my scriptures which I read every night, but lately I'm so tired at night I really need to find a way to switch my habits to morning reading because I just don't get as much out of it when I'm half asleep!

What's on your "nightstand?"

Just junk on my night stand. Lotion, nail clippers, water, alarm clock, paper, eye drops, oh heck, I think it's time to clean my bedroom.
How much longer till Kella? arrives?

I went to the Nurse Midwife yesterday and she said since women deliver anywhere from a couple weeks before their due date to a couple weeks after. I should prepare to have this baby any day starting today for the next 5 weeks!! I thought that was pretty funny!

What's on my nightstand? Books, books, and more books. In fact my nightstand is actually a bookcase. And I'm glad to see Breaking Dawn there!

Good to see someone who reads. I can't touch books, they are like immediate sleep aids for me, unless you put something really technical, that only 2% of the population would understand. My nightstand has an alarm clock and a tiny cord to charge me cellular, oh and the remote to the lights, so I can dim and turn them off. I usually end up playing find the remote before I go to bed so I can save 10 seconds of going over to the light switch to turn the lights off. Kids they make life funner!
